Anorexia Symptoms
Everyone should be educated on the signs and symptons (symptoms) of anorexia nervosa because it is one of the most dangerous eating disorders in society today. It is also largely caused by our society and the idea that some put in peoples minds that they need to be thin in order to succeed in life. It is what is inside and the ambition that gets success, not thinness. Stardom is possible without jeopardizing your health. There is such a thing as being too thin and there is such a thing as being too heavy. People need to know how to distinguish the difference and know what the dangers are before starting a diet. It is also important that you do not try to lose the weight too fast and make sure you eat healthy as you go. Some of the signs and symptoms to look for are anemia, thin appearance, skipping meals, making excuses not to eat, excessive exercise, lack of emotion, trouble concentrating, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, hair thinning, falling out or breaking, soft hair all over the body, dry skin, constipation, low blood pressure, brittle nails, irregular heart beat, mitral valve prolapse, heart failure, cessation of menstruation (in females), decrease in testosterone (in males), looking in the mirror a lot and seeing themselves as fat even when they aren't, weighing themselves a lot, wearing baggy or layered clothing to hide their weightloss, bone loss which may lead to fractures, lung problems similar to emphysema, bloating, nausea, electrolyte abnormalities such as low blood pressure, low sodium, and low chloride, kidney problems, liver damage, and more. Anorexia can damage any or all of the vital organs in the body so it is very important to seek help as soon as possible before too much damage is done. Some damage cannot be repaired.
There are eating disorder treatment centers in the United States and in Britain and they have qualified doctors to give treatment for the eating disorders. It is just vital to get help before too much damage has been done. Anorexia has caused death in many victims because they did not admit they had a problem soon enough to get the help they needed. Some people can not afford the treatment. It is a long drawn out affair and it is not easy. Treatment is also very expensive. Many people can not afford the treatments and some insurance companies will not pay for the treatments. There have been over eight million people diagnosed with eating disorders such as anorexia and the numbers continue to rise. The majority of those diagnosed are between the ages of 10 and 20 with the average being 17. We have to educate our kids so we can help them and possibly save their lives.
